What is Airbrush Makeup and how is it applied?
Airbrush makeup is applied using an airbrush gun and air compressor. Unlike traditional makeup, which is applied with a sponge or makeup brush, airbrush makeup is sprayed onto the skin with controllable airflow for an even, flawless coverage.
Does it feel heavy/cakey?
When applied correctly, airbrush makeup feels lightweight and barely there. Most clients comment on how they don’t even feel it, but the coverage is flawless. If you’re not used to wearing foundation, and want a natural feel, this is the perfect option for you.
What are the different types of airbrush formulas?
There are many brands and types of foundation out there. My personal favorite is Temptu professional. Airbrush foundation consists of three different types of formulas for different skin types and coverage.
Silicone Based: Temptu S/B is my favorite formula and what I use on all my clients! This is a silicone based airbrush foundation and is best at mimicking the skin’s natural texture. With its lightweight and natural feel, it gives a slight blurring effect with a radiant finish and youthful glow for all skin types. Coverage is lightweight and can be layered easily to give more coverage where it is needed. It is a great universal formula in the sense that it can easily be manipulated to give a dewy finish for dry skin types, or be used with a setting powder for a mattified look for oilier skin types.
Water Based: A water based airbrush foundation gives more of a matte finish. This formula is geared more for extra oily skin and everyday wear. The coverage is more opaque and has a dry finish. It is not my favorite of the formulas and I will tell you why: after lots of testing on myself and clients, I have found that the water based airbrush tends to crack over time and left streaks where water or tears fell. The streaking/cracking effect makes it hard to touch up later, too.
Alcohol Based: An alcohol based airbrush foundation is perfect for tattoo coverage! It’s a waterproof coverage that can last days if taken care of properly. This formula is highly pigmented, which paired with the right corrector can give the best coverage for tattoos of all sizes. Because this formula is water proof, you don’t need to worry about it rubbing off on your white wedding dress.
Does it last all day?
The best benefit to airbrush makeup is by far its durability and longevity. The Temptu formula I use definitely holds up the best in hot, humid weather, rain, snow, tears, and sweat. Since the majority of my work is done here in Austin, TX, it’s a no brainer why I love to use airbrush for weddings and photoshoots.
Is airbrush makeup the best option for everyone?
The answer is NO, it is not the best option for all skin types. If someone has a lot of texture to the skin, maybe from acne, scarring, or more mature skin, I find regular foundation to be a better option. Regular foundation can be worked into the skin, which helps fill in uneven skin. Airbrush makeup sits more on top of the skin, as an outer layer. Both can have long lasting effects when applied properly.
Why do I prefer airbrush makeup for brides?
With the new technology in HD photography and videography, I really feel it photographs amazing, has the best longevity, and gives the best natural flawless feel. It’s also universal for all skin types, with an array of colors, making it easy to match every skin tone and type. The regular foundation I use can give the same effect, but for brides I prefer airbrush makeup for its serious lasting power.
